After more than 18 years as our faithful parish secretary, Ruth Sowrey is retiring, but thankfully, not leaving the parish.

Ruth has been the gentle voice that callers hear on our phone; the person they often encounter first in times of need and a steady support to many incumbents. Many people associate her with St. James more so than anyone else; in that she will be impossible to replace!

Ruth plans to spend more time with partner Joe Campbell, who is in Avalon (long term care, Orangeville) and enjoying the flora and fauna around her quaint log home in Albion.

During the current shutdown, the phone is being monitored by Todd Hillhouse and the churchwardens. Other administrative duties will be picked up by the Leadership Team.

Looking ahead, we will be revising the job description for this important role, and once the lockdown is over we plan to advertise the position.

Ruth’s retirement was effective the end of April.
