Sunday Services at St. James Online

Did you know that even though St. James’ Church is closed, you can still take part in the service every Sunday? Each Sunday, Fr. Chris leads the service of Morning Prayer from the Sanctuary and it is streamed live over the internet using an application called GoToMeeting. You can access it using either your computer or your tablet (iPad, etc.). The first time you wish to join the service, you have to install GoToMeeting. The following screens show how this is done on a PC.

How to access the Sunday service

If you receive Fr. Chris’ e-blasts, you can click on the link “Find out how to Access the service here”. This link takes you to the St.  James website. From your browser you can also go directly to the Events page of the website by typing www.stjamescaledoneast/events in the address bar.

Whichever way you get to the Events page, look at “This Week’s Events” and click on “Sunday Morning Prayer”. This will take you to the page where you find the link to the service on GoToMeeting. If GoToMeeting is already installed on your computer, you will be connected to the service. If GoToMeeting is not installed, you will have to install it by following the steps below.

To install GoToMeeting on your PC

The first time you do this, you will have to use install GoToMeeting.  After that, every Sunday you can just click on the link.

New to GoToMeeting? Get the app now and be ready when your first meeting starts:

(Note: The number at the ends changes with each meeting.)

When you click on the link, you will see the following:

Click on Save File and choose to save “GoToMeeting Installer.exe” to your Desktop. Find the icon for the file on your Desktop and double-click it.

The installation process will start.

On the next screen, click on “Save and Continue”

On the next screen click on “Save and Continue”

You’ll next be shown a preview of what other people will see. By default your microphone is muted (turned off) and your camera is on. If you don’t wish to be seen by the other people attending the service, click the camera icon to turn the camera off. Click on “OK, I’M READY” to join the meeting (service).

As soon as the service starts you will see Fr. Chris in the Sanctuary. Take note of the “View Who’s Talking” option near the top of the screen. Click on it to see the different options. The recommended setting is “Who’s Talking”. If you choose “Everyone” you will get a mosaic on the screen showing everyone who has joined the service. This is a better setting for the social time that follows the service.

If you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen you will see four icons. If during the service you wish to change the settings on your microphone and/or camera, click on the respective icon to change the setting, i.e. on or off.

To leave the meeting at any time, click on the Leave icon. You can rejoin the meeting by entering the meeting ID in the GoToMeeting application.

Clicking the Screen icon will blank your screen.
