Grief Support Group at St. James Anglican Church
Each person is unique. There are no two people alike. So too, each of our experiences of grief is unique. Each of us had a unique relationship with the person we have lost. Each bring a unique personality and coping mechanism to the grief experience. And, we all come with a unique history of dealing with earlier losses. The grieving experience is a long, winding path that curves back on itself. It is a path that is challenging to negotiate; time-consuming to travel along; and, at the same time, may provide opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.
Grieving is a part of the human experience. And, like all human experiences, we are designed to move through these experiences in community. The Grief Support Group at St. James Church aims to provide a safe place of acceptance and compassion for all who are experiencing loss of a loved one. Although for some their Christian faith may inform their experience of grief, this group is offered to all – regardless of where one is on their faith journey. The group will meet in person at the church. Together we will work through some helpful activity sheets designed to facilitate safe and meaningful discussion.
Members of the group will decide together how else we wish to support one another – whether to go for a walk one day or share skills or simply provide some much needed company. The Grief Support Group will run for six weeks on
Thursday evenings 7pm to 8:30 pm starting November 3nd and ending December 8th.
